Typically, issues that arise with your enterprise software require costly solutions, but occasionally you’ll find something that’s both helpful and affordable.
UnifyBI, the Tableau to OBIEE connector, is now available in a community edition and free to download. That’s right, free. So, what’s the catch? It doesn’t come with all the bells and whistle of the paid versions, but it will still help the community of Tableau and Oracle BI users solve their biggest problems.
This blog post will cover the issues the Community Edition helps solve, installation, as well as how its features stack up to the UnifyBI Professional Edition and Server Edition.
The Problem the Community Edition Solves
A lot of work goes into the backend of Oracle BI solutions, but the frontend lacks the simplicity of some self-service BI tools, like Qlik or Tableau. This can cause some users to fail to adopt the enterprise Oracle BI solution, or — even worse — pull data from Oracle BI and dump it into Tableau.
Fixing this problem in the past hasn’t been simple since Tableau doesn’t have the inherent capability to have a singular, trusted governed and secure data source. But now, you no longer have to worry about your end users pulling data from your enterprise software and creating data inconsistencies by simply dumping it into Tableau.
The Community Edition easily connects Oracle BI with Tableau – and it’s simple to install, no implementation partner needed.
This connection can benefit you and your organization in three main ways:
- Make more timely decisions
- Make better decisions
- Get the most out of your investments
What you’re ultimately getting from the UnifyBI Community Edition is the simplicity of Tableau that your users want, with the sophistication of Oracle BI that your organization needs. It turns Oracle BI into a data source, allowing every BI user to have access to a single source of truth.
If you’re still not completely sold on the idea of connecting Oracle BI and Tableau (even if it is free), check out this blog post that goes into more detail about the benefits.
Installation
As stated above, installing the Community Edition of UnifyBI is simple. First, click on this link, or the button below.
Installing the UnifyBI Community Edition is just like installing anything else on your computer – it’s a few quick steps. However, there is some information you will have to provide to log in to the Community Edition. If you need assistance during any part of the set-up processes, you can watch this video for step-by-step instructions.
If you do decide to upgrade to one of the paid versions of UnifyBI, installation is just as simple, and you’ll be sent a similar video upon purchasing UnifyBI.
How the Community Edition Stacks Up
As stated in the former section, the UnifyBI Community Edition solves one major problem. You can use Oracle BI subject areas in Tableau, which allows you to drag columns you already have and pull them into Tableau.
While the Community Edition is a simple solution to your biggest problem, but you might not be able to do all the things you’d like to do. To see additional features included in the Professional and Server Editions, check out the chart below…
