FCCS Updates (May) : Enhanced User Interface, Smart View Extensions

Next week, Oracle will update Financial Close and Consolidation Cloud Service (FCCS). In this blog post, we’ll outline changes, new functionality, and fixed defects for May.

Every time a cloud update comes up for FCCS, or any other Oracle EPM cloud products, we’ll update it here on the US-Analytics Oracle EPM & BI Blog.

The monthly update for Oracle FCCS will occur on Friday, May 19 during your normal daily maintenance window.

White Paper: Modernize Your Financial Close Process

Enhanced User Experience

This release introduces enhancements to the user interface that provide a more intuitive and improved user experience. The enhancements affect Task Lists, Close Manager, Supplemental Data Manager, and common use of a filter bar across multiple EPM Cloud services. These changes are intended to provide quick, easy access.

New EPM Automate Utility Version

A new version of the EPM Automate Utility is available with this update. This version includes the following commands:

  • Importsupplementaldata, which imports supplemental data into an application
  • SetDemoDates, which, for installation setup with Oracle internal demo data, resets the tasks start and end dates, and other related date information, to make the tasks look good for a demo

Move New Income Hierarchy Under FCCS_Retained Earnings Current Hierarchy

The complete seeded Net Income Hierarchy has been moved under the Balance Sheet member “FCCS_Retained Earnings Current.” This will impact your existing data, rules, and forms. After upgrading your application, you must run the “Migrate Net Income Data” configuration task. This migration task will be present for a couple of maintenance cycles but will be removed. You are encouraged to run this migration as soon as possible.

Apply Seeded Calculations to All Custom Members

Seeded calculations such as FCCS_Opening Balance are now applied for each custom member that contains data, rather than only for the Total custom member.

Support for Close Management and Supplemental Data Management Extensions

Smart View now supports working directly with Close Manager tasks and schedules, as well as supplemental data. Users can view a list of their current tasks, submit, and approve them from Smart View. To accomplish this, you install two new Smart View extensions — Close Management and Supplemental Data.

From the Downloads page of your service, install the Smart View Extension for Close and Supplemental Data Management. The two extensions are installed from this single installer. After installation, when you open Excel, you will see new ribbons labeled Close Tasks and Supplemental Data.

Enable Close Manager Integrations on Cloud

You can enable tasks to include integrations with external applications. Pre-built integrations are now provided for external applications. You can enable integrations from the Manage Applications feature as needed.

Improved Supplemental Data Manager User Experience

Supplemental Data Manager usability has been improved. A new dashboard that allows you to filter and display Datasets has been added. You can also select and sort columns, view summary totals, and save and restore lists. In addition, data entry forms have been enhanced and a Workflow list has been added.

Working with Metadata

Considerations

Be aware of the following considerations:

  • You should not make metadata changes that result in the following:
    • Changing a base member to which a journal has been posted into a parent member
    • Deleting a member

If there are journals or Supplemental Data posted to those members, these changes can cause problems when accessing Journals or importing existing journals.

  • When you use ad hoc grids in Smart View with FCCS, do not add a root “Period” member on the grid. Make sure the root “Period” member is removed by either clicking “Remove Only” or selecting periods that are in the application and selecting “Keep Only.” If a Period member is left on the grid, then any changes to data that you make will fail to properly set the impact status of the Entities.

File-based Integration of Data Management with Oracle Fusion Financials Cloud

Oracle Fusion Financial Cloud Budgetary Control and Encumbrance Accounting is now fully integrated with Data Management.

This enhancement brings the integration of Oracle Fusion Financials Cloud with Oracle EPM Cloud on par with the current file-based integration. As a result, the file-based integration will be phased out starting the September update to the service.

If you are using file-based integration between Oracle Fusion Financials Cloud and Oracle EPM Cloud, Oracle recommends that you adopt this new integration as soon as possible.
