Why You Should Integrate EBS and OBIEE

The Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) of applications include a variety of capabilities across your enterprise, including customer relationship management, financial management, supply chain management, and more.

Though the applications give you a view of these processes, EBS isn’t organized in a way that makes it easy to evaluate the data and identify trends. Organizations that previously relied on Discoverer for this type of data analysis now need a new solution after the loss of support for the tool. This is where OBIEE comes in. In this blog post, we’ll look at why OBIEE should become a part of your experience with EBS, and how a Discoverer migration process doesn't need to be complicated.

Webinar: How to accelerate your OBIEE & EBS Connection

Dashboards & Reports

OBIEE includes interactive dashboards that give your users a starting point for analyzing data. Users can drill, pivot, and filter their data on the dashboard as well as highlight information in one visual and automatically see which data is correlated. This allows users to easily and quickly spot trends.

With full ad-hoc query capabilities, your users can create brand new analysis or make changes to existing analyses. It might sound complicated, but your users don’t have to have a full knowledge of data storage to make queries. OBIEE is organized in a way that’s easy for users to create their analyses. The ad-hoc query and reporting (as well as dashboard) are set up in a simplified structure, giving users a basic view of metrics, hierarchies, and calculations.

On the 12c version of OBIEE, you also get mashup capabilities that allow you to blend personal and managed data. OBIEE automatically knows the connections between the sets of data and can lead you to redefine your connections or make new ones.

Connection to Various Data Sources

Connecting to EBS is extremely valuable. You’re able to visualize data in OBIEE that was not easy to read before, allowing you to draw valuable conclusions. Beyond the dashboard and reporting capabilities is the access to other data sources. OBIEE can also directly connect to your Hyperion tools, like HFM or Planning. Connection to more data sources will ultimately mean more information that you can analyze and compare to draw conclusions and make decisions.

Deployable Across Your Enterprise

OBIEE can be implemented across your organization, saving you time and money on various systems and servers needed to support several tools. With OBIEE, you need support with one tool. Connecting EBS to OBIEE will probably affect multiple departments in your organization, but you can also share OBIEE with the rest of your organization. Ultimately, you’ll end up with better insight and an increased visibility that can lead to more strategic decision-making.

Connection Time

Unfortunately, an EBS integration with OBIEE isn’t easy, especially when performing a Discoverer migration. Projects typically take a year or more to complete. However, it’s possible to reduce that time to months with AccelerateBI.

This tool includes 75 percent of the resources you need, including…

  • The Repository Database (RPD)
  • Dashboards
  • Reports
  • Database tables and views

The other 25 percent of the work is customization to fit your organization’s specific needs.

There are other ways to integrate OBIEE and EBS, but AccelerateBI was built to give you quality reporting in a timelier fashion. The product is not a subscription — once everything has been customized and implemented, you own it. You’ll also get thorough project documentation, making OBIEE easier for admins to maintain post-implementation.
