What Does A Typical Hyperion FCM Implementation Look Like?

Think back to your last implementation or upgrade project. How many hours did your finance and accounting team devote to the project? How stretched were your IT resources? Did the implementation take so long that you were ready for an upgrade shortly after?

Budget, timeline, and company resources are all factors to consider when implementing new application solutions. The goal of implementing Oracle Hyperion Financial Close Management (FCM) is to equip the finance and accounting team with the necessary tools to optimize financial close and submission — while minimizing strain on client resources and delivering a quick turnaround time.

Essbase Tutorial: 10 Steps to Eliminate Hard Coding in the Oracle Call Interface (OCI)

Recently, I was assisting with the migration of a new managed services client to hosting provider, Armor. The migration is a custom data warehouse using standard products such as Oracle RDBMS, Essbase, and Oracle Data Integrator (ODI). After the installation and migration, I started reviewing the Essbase load rules and learned the rules were hard coded. Specifically, the load rules utilize Oracle RDBMS as a data source which is specified in the Oracle Call Interface (OCI) dialog box. OCI is an alternative to ODBC and improves interface time for both data and dimension builds. Using OCI is also advantageous because it does not require the creation of an ODBC data source, however, an Essbase variable can be utilized to specify the connection — this will be demonstrated in the tutorial.

FDMEE Tutorial: Search Icon Missing from Select Point of View Dialog Box

Posted by Terry Ledet   |   Oracle FDMEE,   |   Data Integration

With numerous clients upgrading to EPM 11.1.2.4.x and migrating from FDM Classic to FDMEE, one issue we’ve heard repeatedly is that the search icon is missing from the Select Point of View dialog box when using Internet Explorer 11. This is the result of the Workspace hostname / computer name being listed in Compatibility View or Display intranet sites in Compatibility View being selected.

FDMEE Tutorial: How to Install PSE 22506614

Posted by Terry Ledet   |   Oracle FDMEE

In my previous blog post FDMEE Map Monitor Reports (Finally!), I demonstrated how to enable this new functionality included in FDMEE patch 11.1.2.4.100. The tutorial listed which Map Type and Action were logged and which were not logged concluding with Bug 22526857 - AIF_ARTIFACT_AUDIT TABLE NOT LOGGING ANY CHANGES FOR EXPLICIT AND MULTI DIMENSION, which was provided by Oracle Support based on an SR opened during the creation of the tutorial.

This tutorial below will review the implementation of Patch Set Exception (PSE) 22506614, which contains three code fixes.

Tutorial: FDMEE Map Monitor Reports (Finally!)

Posted by Terry Ledet   |   Oracle FDMEE,   |   Data Integration

One of the features missing in FDMEE to achieve parity with FDM Classic is Map Monitor Reports, which for numerous clients is a key internal / SOX control. Thankfully, a much-needed enhancement included in PSU 11.1.2.4.100 are two Map Monitor Reports.

Specifically, the Readme states, “Two new Map Monitor Reports have been added to the Audit Reports report group: Map Monitor for Location and Map Monitor for User. Map Monitor Reports show changes made to the data load mapping rules using any of the methods data load mappings UI, Excel template imports, text file imports, and Lifecycle Management imports. The Map Monitor Reports do not capture historical data earlier than release 11.1.2.4.100. Map Monitor Reports are enabled only if the Enable Map Audit is set to 'Yes' in System Settings.”

This blog post will demonstrate how to enable the functionality and detail which map types are logged “monitored” based on the type of change and which are not.

FDMEE Tutorial: How to Utilize Essbase as a Source

Posted by Terry Ledet   |   Oracle FDMEE,   |   Data Integration

In previous FDMEE tutorials, we've talked about how to utilize HFM as a source and how to utilize Essbase as a Target.

One of the enhancements to FDMEE 11.1.2.4 is the functionality to utilize an Essbase application not only as a Target but also as a Source. Unfortunately, prior to PSU 11.1.2.4.100, the product had a bug that prevented this functionality. Now with the release and installation of PSU 11.1.2.4.100, bug 20747662 “Import from EPM source (Essbase) fails” has been resolved. This step-by-step tutorial will demonstrate this functionality, i.e. extracting data from an Essbase Block Storage “BSO” application.

FDMEE Tutorial: How to Update a Scheduled Batch from the Web Interface

Posted by Terry Ledet   |   Oracle FDMEE,   |   Data Integration

One of the numerous enhancements when migrating from FDM Classic to FDMEE is the capability to schedule a batch from the Web Interface. However, once the batch  is scheduled, how does an individual update or validate the schedule? The interface does not provide this option.

FDMEE Tutorial: How to Load Periodic Data to HFM

One of the best practices of interfacing general ledger data to Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) is the loading of data with a Year To Date (YTD) View instead of Periodic. However, there are circumstances, such as a partial year implementation of a ledger without history, that prevent this best practice.

At a client of a colleague this recently happened. When presented with this requirement, my colleague checked the Import Format and Target Application options, which did not have a View option. As a result, this blog post presents the solution needed to load Periodic data to HFM utilizing FDMEE.
